Different stages of capacity development UNESCO INSTITUTE for STATISTICS Our aim is to move countries up to the next level towards better data … BASIC Lacking statistical infrastructure; Little government commitment and use of data; less need for international comparable data INTERMEDIATE Basic data channels in place; some commitment to data use; data fragmented across ministries; coverage and relevance; regional comparisons SELF-SUSTAINING Stable information system, good links between users and producers of data, responsive to relevant policy issues, but the demands are more complex; international comparisons used widely

EFA Global Monitoring Report Regional education data reports Almost are available in English and French; a few are available in all six U.N. languages The UIS website is an important mechanism for disseminating data (on-line database) The traditional UNESCO annual yearbook was discontinued in favour of more accessible and user-friendly approaches Main publication series: statistics and indicators Global Education Digest / cd-rom - UIS flagship
