4. THE DEFINITION TO DENSITY Density is the amount of matter found in a substance in a certain predetermined volume.

6. The density of any pure substance, no matter how many different sizes it may be broken up into, is always the same for that substance at the same given temperature and pressure.

7. HOW CAN A SUBSTANCE’S DENSITY BE CHANGED?

8. The first way is to change the temperature. Increase the temperature – decrease the density. Decrease the temperature – increase the density.

9. The second way is to change the pressure. Increasing the pressure – increases the density. Decreasing the pressure – decreases the density.

19. Higher temperature air can hold more water vapor because the air is less dense. Because the air is less dense, there are more open spaces in a given volume of air for the water vapor molecules to fit into.
