Expectations and equipment Pencil case Full PE kit and trainers Reading book and reading record Home learning folder (on specific days)

Class Routines Every day - Maths, English, Collective Worship and quiet reading time (15 minutes) Every afternoon – either: History/Geography/Science/RE/Art/D&T/ Computing/PE/Music/PSHCE/MFL Mondays and Wednesdays – PE kit Choir – Tuesdays (anyone can join!) Library day – Wednesdays *A precise timetable will come home with the children in September.

Maths and English Following the mastery curriculum for Y5 Age-related expectations for Maths and English (working towards, expected, applied) More information is available on the school website

TOPICS Topic webs are sent out with newsletters at the start of each long term.

TOPICS Term 1: Space Term 2: India Term 3: Ancient Egypt Term 4: Life Cycles Term 5: Houses and Homes Term 6: Vikings All topics are very cross-curricular. Topic webs are sent out with newsletters at the start of each long term.

Home learning Weekly home learning tasks given out and collected in the following week. The children will all be given a home learning folder – please ensure they use these. It will usually contain: Spellings A weekly Maths and English task Times tables At school - spelling and mental maths test each week There is also an expectation that children will read every day at home and to parents regularly.

Projects Usually related to the topic and will cover different subjects. It is much more open- ended and designed to allow the children choice and challenge in their learning at home. There will usually be one project per term and the children will have around 4 weeks to complete them.

The Year 5 Calendar Term 1 - trip to Herschel Museum - visit St Mary’s Church for RE Term 2 - India Day (in school) - Christmas play Term 3 - Ancient Egyptian Day (in school) Term 4 - SRE lessons with the school nurse Term 5 - Trip to Sewage works - Deanfield Residential trip Term 6 - Viking Day (in school)

Deanfield Residential April 26 th, 27 th & 28 th Activities High rope activities – on centre site (Jacob’s ladder, zip wire, leap of faith) Archery – on centre site Canoeing– by mini bus to a lake Rock climbing and abseiling – on centre site Night walk
