7 YEAR LONG PROJECT It is estimated that by UNICEF and the World Health Organization (WHO) that 780 million people in the world lack access to clean water [1]. Furthermore, over 3.4 million people die each year from water, sanitation, and hygiene-related causes, 99% of which occur in developing worlds [2]. You and your team have been called upon to help address this issue. The goal of your project is to build a water distillation system that runs entirely on solar energy via solar collection and can be easily distributed to developing worlds. As a team, use your knowledge of the various material properties covered in class (reflectivity, stress-strain, conductivity…etc.) to come up with a design that:  Effectively distills water  Is easily assembled  Is cost effective 1.Estimated with data from WHO/UNICEF Joint Monitoring Programme (JMP) for Water Supply and Sanitation. (2012). Progress on Sanitation and Drinking-Water, 2012 Update.Progress on Sanitation and Drinking-Water 2.World Health Organization (WHO). (2008). Safer Water, Better Health: Costs, benefits, and sustainability of interventions to protect and promote health; Updated Table 1: WSH deaths by region, 2004.Safer Water, Better Health: Costs, benefits, and sustainability of interventions to protect and promote healthWSH deaths by region In addition to building your system, you will be required to write a 2 page report. The report will not only require you to explain your thought process in coming up with the design, but will also require a step-by-step instruction manual on the assembly of your system. Furthermore, it will require a detailed materials list for your system and cost of each item.
