Kindness
6
What comes to mind when you hear “kindness”
9
Kindness (xrēstótēs) ("useful kindness") refers to meeting real needs, in God's way, in His timing (fashion). It is a Fruit of the Holy Spirit (Gal 5:22). So with a believer ("divine kindness") is the Spirit-produced goodness which meets the need and avoids human harshness (cruelty).
10
Many people are cold toward the church because of it’s lack of kindness
11
Titus 3:3-7 At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another. 4 But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, 5 he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, 6 whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, 7 so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life.
12
Colossians 3:12-13 Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. 13 Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. Proverbs 11:16-17 A kindhearted woman gains honor, but ruthless men gain only wealth. Those who are kind benefit themselves, but the cruel bring ruin on themselves. Luke 6:35 But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked.
13
Psalm 106:6-8 We have sinned, even as our ancestors did; we have done wrong and acted wickedly. 7 When our ancestors were in Egypt, they gave no thought to your miracles; they did not remember your many kindnesses, and they rebelled by the sea, the Red Sea. 8 Yet he saved them for his name’s sake, to make his mighty power known.
14
Romans 2:3-5 So when you, a mere human being, pass judgment on them and yet do the same things, do you think you will escape God’s judgment? 4 Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, forbearance and patience, not realizing that God’s kindness is intended to lead you to repentance?
15
How we clothe ourselves with kindness… 1. Ask God to help you hear your words and the tone of your words. 2. Be intentionally kind to the people you are normally harsh and judgmental toward. 3. Pray and look for people to express kindness to everyday.
