2 You’d like to try using your skills and gifts overseas? You’re not sure about the ‘big commitment’ but you’d like to see what missionary service is all about?

3 CMS has opportunities for people interested in using their talents for God. Even if it is for a short period you can make a difference, and it might change your life

4 Who can Apply? YOU - if you are a committed Christian and agree with the principles of CMS and have gifts and skills that can be used overseas How long is ‘short term’? Generally short-termers work overseas from 3 months to 2 years What does it cost? Expect to cover your own costs, including airfare. Some short- termers may receive an allowance for living expenses.

6 Get involved Become an active member of CMS Start finding out about current areas of ministry and the realities of serving as a missionary step 1

7 Find out Come and chat with the General Secretary of your branch so you can: –ask questions –get more information –discuss specific opportunities step 2

8 Qualifications Usually you need to be qualified in your area of work and have had some experience in your field Some people will need to have completed Bible training step 3

9 Apply You will need to prayerfully fill in an application form. These are available from your branch General Secretary. You will also need to give permission for CMS to obtain a Federal Police Check. step 4

10 Health check You will be asked to obtain a medical clearance from your doctor step 5

11 Interview Having applied to CMS, you will then need to be interviewed by members of the Branch Candidates Committee. step 6

12 Acceptance As your acceptance for short- term service is approved by CMS Candidates Committee, negotiations concerning your overseas placement will take place with CMS staff. step 7

13 Orientation Pre-departure orientation and training are essential. Your Branch General Secretary will be able to tell you about short courses that are held during the year to help you prepare for your cross cultural ministry. step 8

14 Departure CMS staff will help you to prepare for your departure with information about travel, visa arrangements and health issues. step 9
