3 Description of arctic Topography: artic has lakes rivers oceans, tundra and large forests Vegetation: 1700 different kinds of plants start to grow in June in the tundra of artic Climate: the winters are very cold and long, the summers are very short

4 All about food What kind of food did Inuit's eat  They ate animal and fish(none of the animal went to waste)  They also ate Cariboo, seals, and whale How did they get their food supply  Used umiaks for hunting and sleds pulled by huskies for hunting as well

5 Clothing  Ingenious clothing  Caribou hair is hollow  Layered winter pants and parkas  Single layer summer suit (they would take a layer off their winter suit)  Hoods were lined with fur  Mittens from caribou fur  Ingenious clothing  Caribou hair is hollow  Layered winter pants and parkas  Single layer summer suit (they would take a layer off their winter suit)  Hoods were lined with fur  Mittens from caribou fur  They would use caribou fur, seal skin, hides.  Seal skin was good for the summer months as it was almost water proof What type of clothes did they wear? What materials did they use?

6 Shelter What type of shelter did they live in?  They lived in igloos in winter time with snow keeping the cold out (it took them an hour to make a igloo)  In summer they would live in tents What materials did they use?  They used snow to make igloos  In summer for their tents they use drift wood or whale rib bones to keep the tent standing and they would use caribou or seal skin to cover it.

7 Transportation What transportation did they use  They used sleds and had huskies drag them in the winter  Kayaks(one person boat) and umiaks, used for hunting and transporting groups of people Materials used  They used Driftwood, whalebones, stretched skins, and whale fat

8 Social organization and government How the groups were divided  The groups were divided into groups based on language and where abouts they lived Who were the leaders and how were the choosen?  Usually the older man were chosen to be leader because they were believed to be wiser  An famous inuit leader is Terry Audla

9 Who had power? Who had authority?  inuits believed the religious leaders called the shamans had most power and was able to communicate to the spirit world

10 What ceremonies were preformed? Bladder dance The bladder dance is a ceremony they believe the spirit of the animal is found in their bladder it was usually held after a large hunt Sun ceremony  This ceremony happened once a year when the sun disappears and the stars shine mid day

11 Religion Spiritual beliefs  They usually believed in animalism, which is all objects are living things and have spirits Who were their religious leaders  Shaman was their religious spiritual leaders which were the only ones who could connect to spirits
