5 Parts of the leaf The thin, flat part of the leaf. petiole blade stomata guard cells The stalk that joins the blade to the stem. Tiny openings in the epidermis that allows carbon dioxide, water, and oxygen to pass through. Two slightly curved epidermal cells that regulate water loss for the leaf.
