Introductory Information Course Webpage:othschem.pbworks.com/SCH4C My e-mail:david.ward@ocdsb.cadavid.ward@ocdsb.ca (NOTE: The school website is still wrong!) Course requirements:SCH3U (*you'll need to work 15% harder to keep the same mark as last year) Highlights: Lab scheduled about every two weeks, usually Wednesdays Each lab you'll have a new lab partner of your choosing Student teacher to visit during the course (maybe??)

New Evaluation Format and Curriculum Unit 1:Organich Chemistry (NEW!) Unit 2: Structure and Properties of Matter Unit 3: Energy Changes and Rates of Reaction (NEW!) Unit 4: Chemical Systems and Equilibrium Unit 5: Electrochemistry Assessment:Please note the importance of timelines 1 Day Return Policy Focus on skills and big ideas rather than specific information ( we're more interested in why rather than what)

Textbook Liability Forms and tonight's homework Textbooks will be assigned to everyone who returned last year's texts properly Replacement cost is 80$ Textbook references appear on the webpage for several reasons: 1)Checking to see the homework for each lesson 2)Looking to see what was missed in case of an absence 3)Reading ahead (sometimes required as part of your learning, always a good idea to prepare you for the lessons ahead)
5
First Day Information Page Please take your time to complete this fully My most common form of communication is by e-mail (for both you and your parents/guardians) Be honest about all the information Please choose a codename that you'll remember easily when marks are updated 3 weeks from now (you may even wish to record this in your agenda) Please see the grade 11 review lesson and complete it to the best of your ability in the remainder of this class.

Class Participation This is a major component of your character development. I appreciate the following (as do your classmates): positive comments questions concerns Answers (with your reasoning – which is actually more important) It is important to avoid: Cell phones and other distractions Lateness, particularly habitual lateness Inappropriate conduct towards others ('hunting', 'bashing', 'insecurities') NOTE: I'm interested that you not only learn, but also that you enjoy the process of learning. It's vital that you do go through a minor 'struggling' process. I'd rather it happen this year than next year
