A New System for Handling Samples of Cereals, Oilseed rape, Pulses etc. Ingemar Gruvaeus Hushållningssällskapet Skaraborg, Sweden ingemar.gruvaeus@hush.se
2
Background The development of NIT and NIR analysing equipment have made analyses of several parameters in grain samples possible to a low cost. The equipment is easy to handle and suited to use directly on a experimental station.
3
Low cost per sample makes plot wise analyses possible We can now study many quality parameters in a single trial, cheap and efficient. Plot wise analyses gives the possibility of a statistically correct information of yield after cleaning and correction for moisture content. We can also e.g. describe uptake of N or starch yield in a single trial.
4
Plot wise sample handling and analyses Minimise risk of error in sampling. Time saving at harvest
5
New Handling system for plot wise sampling Sample is taken out at harvest in field directly in a small ( 1 litre) plastic container. The containers is prelabeled. ** We handle plots in a bigger box, 24 in each The box is labeled **** The sample is dried and stored in the same container ****** This allows the same tara weight even if there is small variations in container weight.

Properties for sample containers Volume app. 950 ml Plastic, polypropylene Slotted bottom allows drying of sample Squared for good drying properties Antistatic 24 containers in each box with shared lid Price on request

Analysing process Sample is weighed Drying to storage level of MC Sample is weighed Cleaning Sample is weighed Analyses on NIT-instrument Total time consumption per sample, < 5 min Samples are stored ½ year to allow extra analyses due to interest in different trials
