2 Introduction ● 3 Types of Advancement – Rank Advancement – Merit Badges – Leadership Training ● T2819 Procedures – TroopMaster – Council requirements – Court of Honor

3 Rank Advancement ● Scout, Tenderfoot, 2 nd Class, First class – Focus is on Scout skills – Requirements may be signed off by Eagle Scout, ASM, SM. ● Star, Life – Focus on leadership and service to others – Requires SM signoff on most items

4 Eagle Scout ● Requires 21 Merit Badges – 12 Required by BSA Others at Scout choice ● Service project – Show leadership – Leader vs Do – No Hours requirement but expect 100+ hrs ● Document Scout History – Ranks earned / MB earned, Leadership etc

5 Scout Rank ● Demonstrate proper scout procedures (Scout sign, Scout Oath and Scout Law). ● Tie a square knot. ● Paperwork

6 Tenderfoot Rank ● Introductory Camping skills ● Physical fitness test ● Basic First Aid ● More Knots

7 Second Class Rank ● More Advanced Camping Skills ● More Advanced First Aid ● Swimming skills ● Participate in at least Five scout activities ● More Knots

8 First Class Rank ● Advanced Camping Skills ● More Knots ● Participate in 10 scout activities ● Swim test

9 Star Scout Rank ● Earn at least six merit badges (four of which must be Eagle required) ● Serve in a troop or OA leadership position for 4 months since earning First class ● Participate in at least 6 hours of service work.

10 Life Scout Rank ● Be active as a Star scout for at least 6 months ● Earn at least five more merit badges (3 of which must be Eagle required) ● 6 more service hours ● Must serve for 6 months as a star scout in a leadership position

11 Eagle Scout Rank ● Be Active in a leadership role for 6 months as a Life Scout. ● Earn at least 10 merit badges (5 of which must be Eagle required) ● While a Life scout, plan, develop and lead a service project. This project cannot benefit the Boy Scouts of America. ● Pass Eagle Scout Board of Review.

12 Merit Badges ● Over 120+ subjects covered ● Most are meant to introduce Subject to scout ● Several Eagle Merit Badges require 3 months of effort – Do not delay till Life to start! ● Basic requirements – Scoutmaster Permission to start – Consult with Counselor – Report to Advancement chair when complete

13 Leadership Training ● Oak Leaf ● New Youth Leadership Training – Was Golden Acorn ● Den Chief ● First Aid / Lifesaving / CPR ● Troop Junior Leadership

14 Troop 2819 Procedures ● Rank Advancement – A Copy of advancement progress is kept using Troopmaster software – Only SM, ASM, and Advancement Chair has access – Upon completion of requirements bring Scout book to Advancement chair to be recorded – A Current progress report is always available – Must keep records up to date for Council and Court of Honor reports / awards – Once Rank requirements are met Contact SM, Advancement or Committee chair for SM Conference and Board of Review.

15 Troop 2819 Procedures ● Merit Badges – Bring complete Blue card to Advancement chair for recording – Summer / Winter camp adult leader will provide camp report of completed and partial Merit badges earned or worked on to advancement chair for recording – Troopmaster will keep track of Partial earned badges

16 Troop 2819 Procedures ● Leadership training – Bring certificate or other proof of completion to advancement chair for recording ● Order of the Arrow – Advise of OA Status ( Ordeal, Brotherhood etc) – Office held counts toward Rank advancement

17 Troop 2819 Procedures ● Advancement Chair – Keep troop records of all advancement, produce reports for SM and council advancement – Keep up to date on all changes in requirements – Purchase / Acquire badges for COH and Rank ● Merit Badge Counselor – Act as guide for Boys working on Merit badges – Must be registered as a MB counselor – No special skills required. MB counselor training available
