4 SO MUCH MORE There’s so much more that can be done to ensure your entire family is living safely.

5 TELEVISION SAFETY In the past 20 years the number of children being injured by falling televisions has doubled and 200 children were killed.

6 TELEVISION SAFETY Flat-panel TVs should be mounted on the wall or a television stand

7 FURNITURE SAFETY Older TVs should not be on a dresser in a bedroom unless the dresser is bracketed to the wall or stoppers are in the drawers to keep them from being opened all the way

8 BOOKSHELF SAFETY Bookshelves should also be bracketed to a wall

9 ELECTRICAL SAFETY An estimated 7 children a day are seen in emergency rooms due to electrical related injury.

10 FRAYED CORDS Follow cords and look for frayed or loose wires, these should be replaced immediately

11 CORD DANGER No cords should be running under carpets or across doorways

12 ELECTRICAL SAFETY Avoid using extension cords and overloading outlets.

13 BURNING SAFETY Children can be scalded by water from the faucet that is too hot

14 PLUMBING SAFETY Check the setting on the hot water heater, it should be no higher than 120 degrees

15 SCALDING SAFETY A plumber can install an anti- scald device for the faucets and showerhead

16 KITCHEN SAFETY It’s unrealistic to expect little ones to stay out of the kitchen to ensure they’re safe

17 GO UNPLUGGED All small appliances should be unplugged when not in use

18 LATCH IT Garbage cans should be stored in a cupboard with a latch

19 FIRE SAFETY Most fires start in the kitchen but can spread quickly

20 BE READY Have a fire extinguisher on every floor and in the kitchen

21 BE READY Create an escape plan and make sure that everyone in the family knows it

22 THE GREAT ESCAPE Practice the escape plan several times a year and at least once in the dark
