A Formal Definition of Discovery may be: “The pre-trial phase in a lawsuit in which each party, through the law of civil procedure, can obtain evidence.”

Charter or Memorandum of Understanding

One Definition of “Charter” is the grant of authority or rights, stating that the granter formally recognizes the prerogative of the recipient to exercise the rights specified. Example: A document giving royal permission to start a colony.

For Our Purposes: The project “charter” is a statement of the scope, objective, and participants in a project. It provides a preliminary delineation of roles and responsibilities, outlines, the project objectives, and identifies the main stakeholders.
