6 Highlights and successes Research performance – Research Excellence Framework (REF) outcome 18 th overall, 13 th for 4*, 10 th for environment – Lancaster up to 23 rd in UK for research income (1.04% of market share and plans to grow to 1.5%) – More grants being won (more in first eight months of this year than whole of last year) – £26M income in 2012-13 and £35M year to date

More than £450M in past 10 years. £190M planned over next four years – Library opening – Award-winning Engineering Building – IsoLab and Physics Building – Spine redevelopment – starts this summer – Health Innovation Campus – work has begun – LUMS redevelopment – Forrest Hills acquisition – 10 year Capital and Infrastructure Plan under development

10 Student recruitment UG Home/EU 2016 Upward trend – Applications 2013/14 – 12,420, 2016/17 13,757 Confirmation and adjustment PG Home/EU 2016 Also upward trend - up by 11% Post grad loan scheme Future focus UG – focus on quality rather than quantity (i.e. increase applications to improve entry tariff) PGT – grow substantially on the back of our PGT Review

11 THE Higher Education White Paper Teaching Office for Students – Merging the Office for Fair Access with the learning and teaching functions of the Higher Education Funding Council for England (Hefce) Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) – Technical consultation launched / Link between TEF and tuition fees Research New UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) council – Merging research councils, Innovate UK and research and innovation aspects of Hefce. UKRI will control a ‘common research fund’ New providers of higher education Students studying at private providers (eg BPP, College of Law) up 10% in 4 years

14 Lancaster University College – Beijing Jiaotong University Joint institute with highly ranked Beijing Jiaotong University (BJTU) New campus will be called Lancaster University College - Beijing Jiaotong University Located in Weihai, Shandong Province (about 1.5 hour flight from Beijing) Chinese and international students will be offered undergraduate programmes in Computing, Design, Engineering and Environmental Science from September 2016, co-delivered by Lancaster and BJTU academics Masters courses in Computing and Engineering will be available from 2017 and courses in Business, Accounting and Finance and Logistics are also planned Graduates will receive a degree from both institutions
