Grants from KAB 2008 – KSVB received $1,500 4 Localities 2009 – KSVB received $4,500 6 Localities 2010 – KSVB received $5,000 7 Localities 2011 – KSVB received $5,000 6 Localities Cigarette Litter Prevention Program

Method for Implementing Asked each participating locality to establish a planning team Litter Coordinator/Officer managed each program in their locality Each participant was asked for their preference for receptacles Publicity was done regionally as well as locally Cigarette Litter Prevention Program

Where It Was Implemented Locations for implementing the CLPP included downtown areas, rural roads, parks, festivals and special events, and a golf course Cigarette Litter Prevention Program

How the CLPP was Implemented Locations were chosen by each coordinator Initial scan count was conducted Ashtray receptacles were set out immediately after initial scan Flyers, banners, and pocket ashtrays were handed out A second and third scan was done several weeks later Local Ordinances were reviewed and discussions with local officials and judges were conducted Cigarette Litter Prevention Program

Bumps in the Road Difficult to approach people Difficult to Change Attitudes towards Cigarette Litter Some merchants were concerned about attracting loiterers Some merchants could not give out pocket ashtrays or post flyers due to store policies Vandalism and Theft Cigarette Litter Prevention Program
