MONOCHROMATIC VALUES Using one color with black and white

CONTOUR LINE A contour is a line that defines or bounds anything -- defines its edge http://www.ndoylefineart.com/drawexercise1.html

CONTRAST Contrast in color depends on the three factors of hue, which is another way to say color; value, which is the lightness or darkness of a color; and saturation, which is the intensity or purity of a color. http://coe.sdsu.edu/eet/articles/ColorContrast/start.htm

STUDENT OBJECTIVES ON 2D WORK TLW create faces that are similar to Picasso using a monochromatic color scheme and bold lines. TLW apply contour lines to create a drawing TLW mix paint to create values PABLO PICASSO http://www.inminds.co.uk/weeping-woman-picasso-1937.html

STUDENT OBJECTIVES ON FORM TLW use certain techniques to make plaster forms TLW understand the process of grout TLW use a new tool to cut glass TLW understand different methods of using glass in design LINDA BARANSKI www.lawrenceartscenter.com/Artists/Linda_Baranski/sli des.htmlwww.mosaics

INDEPENDENT PRACTICE Students will create a plaster face/neck Students will apply glass to all areas of plaster Students will work during down/dry time Students will wear glasses at all times when working with glass Students will draw and paint two faces on the same picture plane

PROCEDURES PAINTING FORM Make 3 contour line drawings of a front view and side view of a face within each other. Choose your favorite and draw it on a sheet 8x10 piece of paper. Add more lines to connect with the outside edges of the paper. Paint using one color with different values, contrasting each shape made. Contrast each edges value Cut 2 inch strips of plaster gauze Apply plaster strips to Vaseline face form, in 3 layers and let dry. Add balloon to plaster face with masking tape and apply gauze Apply gauze to cardboard tubes wrapped with Saran wrap Join all forms with gauze Hot glue to wooden base Break glass into small pieces, while wearing your glasses Adhere glass on plaster forms with craft glue Mix grout in bowl, apply evenly, let sit for 15minutes, and wipe Paint base
