1. GOOD MORNING!! Welcome to your first hybrid day!! These instructions will explain what you need to accomplish today for World History!! Please be kind and patient while we try our first ever HYBRID DAY!! Class Agenda: 1.DCP (DCP questions are on the next slide) 2.Read my power point and take notes (just like in class) 3.Create your own power point for class assignment. Important info: Answer the DCP in the power point on the first page of the power point class assignment.

2. DCP 9/2/2011 1. List the 5 hominids we discussed in class over the past week.

4. Hominids such as Neanderthals and Homo- Sapiens spread around the world for two reasons.

5. 1. Changing Climate (Beginning of the last Ice Age) 2. Adapting to new environments

6.  About 1.6 Million Years ago much of the world experienced long periods of freezing weather called: ICE AGES!  These Ice Ages caused glaciers to advance and retreat. (WHAT THE HECK DOES THAT MEAN?) Ice Sheet

9.  Hominids may have moved to follow food supply  As food moved because of colder climate hominids moved as well in order to follow their food supply.

10.  Scientists theorize (what’s that mean again?) that other types of hominids died out over time  Homo-sapiens survived because of our ability to adapt.

11.  Many scientists theorize that Homo- sapiens originated in Africa about 200,000 years ago!  Homo-sapiens began to migrate out about 100,000 years ago.

12.  Name 3 ways that modern humans (homo-sapiens) could have adapted to new environments!!  Take approx 1:30 min!!

13.  The first humans lived during the prehistoric period called the STONE AGE  It is called the Stone Age because people make tools out of….STONE!!  Scientists call the first part of the Stone Age the PALEOLITHIC ERA or OLD STONE AGE

14.  Paleolithic Era lasted from about 2.5 million years ago to around 10,000 years ago THAT’S A LONG TIME!

15.  During the Old Stone Age people lived as NOMADS!! (What’s a Nomad?)  Lived in Bands (Not a rock band)  Were Hunter-gatherers

16. Take another 1:30 min. Theorize!!! What’s a band? What’s a Nomad? What does it mean for these people to be hunter- gatherers?

17.  Nomadic people tended to live in small groups with few belongings. They carried small tents that could be easily packed up and taken to the next location. Nomads were constantly moving people.

18. Hunter Gatherer tribes tended to have the men hunt for big and small game while the women tended to collect edible plants. ALL IN THE NAME OF EATING!!

19. STOP!! HERE IS THE NEXT STEP Create a power point presentation of your own. 1.Imagine you are a 3 rd grade teacher. In your classroom you must teach the content you have learned today to your 3 rd grader students. 2.Make a 7 slide power point presentation to teach 7 concepts to your 3 rd grade students. (You may use Open Office power point or Microsoft office power point, which ever you have on your computer) 3.Your power point must include 7 pieces of information you learned from my power point. (you choose which 7 pieces) Create 1 slide for each piece of information. Write in FULL SENTENCES!! 4.Last, and certainly not least, find a picture to help explain the information on each slide. (1 picture per slide) 5.When all is said and done, you will have 7 slides, with 7 pieces of information, and 7 pictures. 6.When finished send your power point to esaindon@erawarriors.org
