TODAY Who is missing? When should we meet? Next meeting May 25th Prioritize Issues 16

SCHOOL BUS TRANSPORTATION Operating Costs – Shortage of Drivers Expense of Non-reimbursed Trips – Courtesy Trips Non-qualifying dangerous walking condition Magnet Transportation – Requires early morning pickup and long commutes Parents/students opting to drive instead Direct Busing – Long trips to hub and back to schools Location analysis $$ fuel and drivers Hazardous Walking Condition – Deemed unsafe for students to walk/bike 17

SCHOOL BUS TRANSPORTATION –cont’d Options to alleviate transporting for courtesy or hazardous walking conditions – Crossing Guards – Sidewalk infrastructure improved – Walking school buses or bike trains – Phase out courtesy and direct parents toward other options Options to assist with Magnet/Choice transportation – HART routes – Carpools – Park and Ride – Direct busing 18

CROSSING GUARDS Insufficient Amount – Train Parks & Rec staff or others to substitute Criteria for Crossing Guard Placement – What is the process and the qualifying criteria to have a guard assigned? How to Pay – Funding for Crossing Guard Program How do we increase? 19

VEHICLE CIRCULATION ON SCHOOL SITES Parent Queuing – Encourage car pools, walking school bus or bike train or ride bus if qualifying – Extend queue – Flip bus and car loops Parents Arriving Early for Dismissal – Allow early onsite access (open gates earlier) – Onsite circulation changes – Changes to attendance boundary 20

VEHICLE CIRCULATION AROUND SCHOOLS Speeding – Speed zones/Flashing Beacons Timing of Traffic Signals Blocked Intersections Poor Visibility Student and parent walkers/bikers not obeying rules Unauthorized Offsite Parking – Parking in ROW, on commercial parking lots, residential areas Turn Lanes 21

CHANGES TO EXISTING SCHOOL PROGRAMMING Conversions – Magnet – Attractor Program – Grade Levels Served Changes to either start or dismissal time 22

Circulation on site Queueing on site Siting location 23 CHARTER SCHOOLS

SAFE ROUTES TO SCHOOL (SRTS) Program – Leadership, Selection, & Priority Lists – Funding Levels/Mechanisms Safe sidewalks within 2 mile travel radius (State Statute) Crossing Guards within 2 mile travel radius Safe Routes to Bus Stops – Bus Stops Lighting – Sidewalks 24
