England's first news periodicals, called Corantos, circulated in the 1620s. During the next few decades, English notions of the liberty of the press began to develop. This vision helped to inspire more than a century of reform movements that resulted in the gradual elimination of state repression of the press. The most important of these developments include the 1694 act removing pre-publication censorship

The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) is a British public service broadcaster. It is headquartered at Broadcasting House in London, and is the world's oldest national broadcasting organization and the largest broadcaster in the world by number of employees. Britain's first live public broadcast from the Marconi factory in Chelmsford took place in June 1920. It started as a private company in 1923 and it changed to a public service corporation and business in 1926. It offers a lot of services such as television, radio, news, internet, music and more.
10
BBC versus other media The success of broadcasting provoked animosities between the BBC and well established media such as theatres, concert halls and the recording industry. By 1929, the BBC complained that the agents of many comedians refused to sign contracts for broadcasting, because they said it harmed the artist "by making his material stale" and that it "reduces the value of the artist as a visible music-hall performer"

Criticism and controversies The BBC has faced various accusations regarding many topics: the Iraq war, politics, ethics and religion, as well as funding and staffing. It also has been involved in numerous controversies because of its different, sometimes very controversial coverage of specific news stories and programming.

Influenced newspapers Political parties certainly have historically thought so, and had invested enormous resources into controlling the message during campaigns. Newspapers in the UK have no such restrictions on editorial, and have all traditionally been taking part in their approach to politics. In all that time the Daily Telegraph and the Daily Mail have never supported Labour during elections, and the Daily Mirror has never supported any party except Labour.
