1 RESEARCH & INNOVATION SHOWCASE Dr Lauren Walker MRC Clinical Training Fellow supported by the North West England MRC Fellowship Scheme in Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics, funded by the MRC, ICON, GSK, AZ, and the Medical Evaluation Unit. PhD examines the role of HMGB1 in seizures and epilepsy in both experimental models and patients with drug resistant epilepsy Aim is to identify novel, blood biomarkers for early patient stratification in drug-resistant epilepsy Poster B7

2 RESEARCH & INNOVATION SHOWCASE Dr Lauren Walker Expertise Healthy volunteer study for biomarker validation (circadian variability) Patient study involving blood and CSF sampling Experimental models of seizure and epilepsy Human study involving patients with drug-resistant epilepsy Next steps Examine a biobank of patients with newly diagnosed epilepsy - predictive capability of the the biomarker in resistance and response Future steps Prospective human study collecting blood from all patients with seizures – predictive biomarker of further seizures, epilepsy and drug-resistance Poster B7
