Define your applications You can set up one or more applications in the Dynamics NAV Management Portal, where each application is designed for specific needs. For instance, you can define applications based on their functionality or market segment, or based on different localizations of the same application or both. For example, if your company has created a Microsoft Dynamics NAV application for handling financials and accounting, here are some examples of applications you could create in the Management Portal: Financials Lite Financials Advanced Financials for Fashion industry Financials GB Financials DE
12
Upload multiple application versions For each application you can upload multiple application versions. An application version consists of 3 parts: Business Logic: your complete Microsoft Dynamics NAV application database in.bacpac format Tenant Data: your complete Microsoft Dynamics NAV tenant database in.bacpac format Help Data (optional): your help content in.zip format The program automatically fills in the Compatibility Level for your application version, extracting it from the uploaded application database. The Compatibility Level is used to help you find a compatible Microsoft Dynamics NAV Platform for your application.
13
Use latest platforms Platforms are made available for you in the Management Portal automatically, at the same time they are released on the Partner Source. The list of platforms can contain the major releases of Microsoft Dynamics NAV as well as Cumulative Updates and HotFix releases. It also contains both country-specific and W1 platforms; platforms intended to be used for production and for non-production purposes (such as test and validation). By combining compatible platforms and application versions, you can provision your application services. Each new platform has an expiration term of 3 months. You need to make sure you uptake the new platforms before they expire.
14
Provision application services An application service is a multitenant cloud service. You can deploy multiple application services, which enables you to have application services running in different Azure regions, running different versions of your Dynamics NAV application, and on different Dynamics NAV platforms. You can also choose between Office 365 and User Name/Password authentication types. Ensure that there is enough resources available for your tenants by using the Auto- scaling or manual scaling. Scale units are measured in cores (CPUs). Each new scale unit is automatically added to a load- balanced set. When using your own domain, you can use a trusted SSL certificate to secure the communication between your customers and your application service running within Dynamics NAV managed service with HTTPS.
15
Provision tenants An application tenant is a business, organization, or group of legal entities that uses an application service for hosting its business data. In practical terms, a tenant is a database that contains business data for a particular Dynamics NAV customer. Each tenant is connected to a single application service. You can provision (add) tenants either based on the tenant template you uploaded for the application version used by the service, or from a.bacpac file (which you need to upload to the Tenant Data Files list first). Each tenant gets automatically assigned an internal URL in *.navcloudapptest.net domain. If you use your own domain, you can create an alias (CNAME) for it in your domain hosting service.
16
Work with tenants A variety of operations is available for the tenants running in the managed service. Creating a tenant copy Moving a tenant to another service Installing NAV Apps Browsing the list of tenant sessions Debugging a tenant (using a locally installed Microsoft Dynamics NAV Windows Client) Running a specific object (e.g. table, report, codeunit) Browsing vital SQL statistics (time consuming queries, DTU consumption, missing indexes, execution plans etc.) Tenant Data Files for taking and restoring tenant back-ups (in.bacpac format) Azure SQL native features: Point-in-time Copy and Point-in-Time Restore Advanced billing setup Tenants can access your solution via: Microsoft Dynamics NAV Web Client Microsoft Dynamics NAV ClickOnce Client
17
Manage tenant users Manage your users directly from the Management Portal. You can add new users, enable and disable them as required, manage passwords and administrator rights. For the newly provisioned users, you have an option of sending them a Welcome E-Mail containing the URLs to their Web and ClickOnce clients. The Welcome E-Mail template is defined on the application service level. For more advanced user management features (like assigning permissions or profiles), you can easily log into the tenant and do it directly there. Users added directly within the tenant will automatically show up in the Management Portal.
