Mandate To fully review the current structure (the 4 Ontario Sections + Skate Ontario) in an effort to understand their operations and with a view to creating a new and improved operating structure that would align with Skate Canada’s Strategic Plan. To fulfill this mandate the Working Committee was tasked with providing : 1. a complete view of the current state; and 2. a final report outlining the findings of the Working Committee with a plan to implement the preferred way forward. With these views, the Skate Ontario Board would then be in a position to decide on an optimal structure and bring such a structure forward to the Sections as a recommended path forward. 7
8
Findings Exceptional skating programs, events, and development activities taking place in the Province That said, programs, delivery approach, and pathways for athletes are inconsistent with no overarching design, oversight or mandate 8
9
Findings Operational Boards with dedicated volunteers and loyal staff are working very hard to deliver skating in each Section But without a province-wide mandate to coordinate efforts to design programs for broad reach and consistent delivery, gaps remain 9
10
Findings Current structure (4 Sections) creates weakness as a PSO: Ministry’s Sport Recognition Policy requirements Leveraging funding, sponsorship, access to opportunities 10
11
Recommendation and Rationale Unified Ontario Section Leverage strengths within system, while enhancing and broadening impact Province-wide mandate Coordinated, consistent program delivery Create efficiencies, reduce duplication 11
