2 Today’s Target Reading and Analysis Fiction (a) I can explain and analyze the relationships among: conflict, plot, character, characterization, setting, tone, point of view, and theme. Vocabulary V1 - I can analyze the meaning of a word by breaking it down into prefixes, suffixes, and roots, finding cognates, and using synonyms and antonyms.

3 Characters  Individuals who participate in the action in a literary work.  Like real people, characters display qualities and character traits; develop and change over time; have motivations and reasons for their behaviors.

6 Characterization Process by which the writer reveals the personality of a character. TWO WAYS TO CHARACTERIZE:

7 Direct Characterization: Author TELLS the audience the character’s personality with direct description “The patient boy and quiet girl were both well mannered and did not disobey their mother.” What did the author TELL us about the boy?
