Why is Community Engagement Important? WHO definition of the Social Accountability of Medical Schools (1995): “ The obligation to direct their education, research, and service activities towards addressing the priority health needs of the community, region and the nation that they have a mandate to serve.”

The five WWAMI states make up 28% of the U.S. land mass, but contain only 3.4% of the country’s population.
