3 Persons with access to secure testing materials may not utilize materials for personal gain No person may copy, reproduce, or paraphrase the test materials in any manner –Cannot discuss the content of the test with students or with peers Test Administrators Reading Aloud or Cueing the test have added level of confidentiality –Imperative that Test Administrators serving in this role do not disclose any content of the test specifically or generally Test Administrators signing/ cueing may view a student test book up to 2 days before the test under secure conditions Test Security North Carolina Testing Code of Ethics

5 All rooms must be checked prior to testing by a school staff member to ensure they have been prepared for testing – Utilize the School Testing Coordinator Monitoring Checklist Make sure all windows on doors are uncovered – STC needs to have access to monitor and observe what is happening in each testing session Post “Testing – Do Not Disturb” sign on each door Walls and desks must be clear of test taking tips and content Clocks must be at the front of the room where students can see Space student desks to ensure proper space for testing and to discourage cheating Desks facing the same direction Prepare the Testing Environment EOC p.10

6 Prohibited Items Electronic Devices – Any student observed with a cell phone/electronic device on their person during testing or breaks must be dismissed from testing and the irregularity reported Testing devices (Chromebooks) are the only electronics allowed in the test session – Any electronic devices found must be investigated by the STC (call the main office for security to bring the phone and student to Library, you keep the test materials and write a report for check-in) Personal Belongings – Students’ personal belongings should be placed at the front of the classroom. No access to personal belongings is permitted during testing Testing Aids – No textbooks, reference books, wall charts, study guides, reference charts, etc. may be present during any test administration Food and Drink – Unless approved for medical reasons – TA and proctors may have water in the test session (keep it away from test materials)

Proctors

13 Age 18 or older and NOT enrolled in a K-12 public school – Adult community volunteers – School staff – District staff Must be registered as a CMS volunteer unless employed by the district Cannot proctor in a classroom if: – Related to a student in the class – Related to or close friends with the Test Administrator – Relative includes child, stepchild, grandchild, niece, nephew, sibling, in-law, or person under the proctor’s guardianship Proctor Eligibility

14 Monitor the test administration procedures and the Test Administrator Monitor students and report any issues to the School Test Coordinator – Ask for proctors to provide a written statement if an issue is reported The Test Administrator and proctor must be present in the room at all times – Hallway monitor should be available for student or staff restroom breaks and emergencies Proctor Responsibilities

15 Proctors CANNOT: Be alone with or handle test materials – Proctor cannot pass out ancillary materials – Includes computers with loaded active assessments Clarify questions or indicate answers to students Read the directions to students Assist students in answering questions Change student responses Assist test administrator in coding information on the answer sheet or in NCTEST Assist students with technical issues with online testing Answer student questions −The proctor can respond to student questions by saying, “I cannot answer your question, just do your best.” Proctor Responsibilities

25 Purpose of assessment Test-taking strategies Inform accommodations groups of test day changes ( TA, accommodations, date, time, room, etc.) Help students become familiar with recording gridded response and constructed response items – REQUIRED: Students must participate in gridded response practice using the gridded response activity provided by the state for Math I. Maintain documentation of completion for all eligible students – REQUIRED: Students must participate in the online assessment tutorial through NCTest for English II.
