2. Dear Millstone River School Families, A warm welcome to our new 3rd graders and 4th graders and a welcome back to our returning students! The staff and PTA want to welcome all the students into the Millstone River School Community! One way parents can feel a part of the Millstone River School (MRS) Community is to enroll as a MRS PTA member and get involved. Research has shown that children do better in school when their parents are involved both at home and at school. As a parent, we know that children grow up fast and that teenagers usually don’t like to associate with their parents but elementary children love seeing their parents at school and school events. The first easy way to get involved this year is with our campaign, “Love Your School and Town”. Local restaurant are donating a portion of their sales on a given day to our school. The first one is Redberry on September 16. We are hoping to have a local restaurant each month. Please check the MRS PTA emails or the MRS PTA website (www.millstoneriverpta.org) for more information. The MRS PTA executive board has been working hard this summer planning events for the 2016-2017 school year including student assemblies, family fun nights and staff appreciation events. We already had our first event – Welcome Back Breakfast for Staff on Sept 1. The staff was so happy and it started this school year on the right note. Below are a few of the exciting events planned this year: 2016 Student Assemblies: 3rd grade – Wacky Science Show (November) 4th grade – “The Brain Show” (May) 5th grade – “Even Small Crayons make Bright Marks” (Hard topics are discussed in fun ways in April). Family Fun Nights: We will try to have a Family Fun Night once a month. Our first one is September 29 – Pajama Night where Ms. Bonino will wear her pajamas and read a story to the students in their pajamas. Some lucky children will get scholastic dollars. Our Family Fun Nights are designed for your children to associate school with fun. Children who enjoy school do better academically. 2

Fundraisers : The MRS PTA conducts various fundraisers throughout the year to fund the events listed above as well as provide needed materials for the students, for example the 3rd grader t-shirts, etc. These events and materials are not covered by the school budget. Please support the following events to help raise money: Book Fair (September 26 – 20), Cookie Dough Sale (January), Silent Auction at Winter Party (February 10), Write a Check Campaign – see attached form (all year), Boxtops (all year), Amazon Smile (all year) and McCaffrey’s receipts (all year). Back to School Night and General PTA Meetings Please come early to Back to School Nights (Sept 21 & Sept 26 - 6:30 pm) to meet members of the MRS PTA and to learn more about the MRS PTA. Please join us at our monthly general meetings beginning on Wednesday, September 28 at 9:30am in the cafeteria. Communication Our events will be electronically sent to you – so please read the MRS PTA emails –they will be short and explain the event(s) for that week only. We will run contests throughout the year! The expiration date must be included on the Box Top. No more than 25 Box Tops to a sheet. Make sure you write your teacher’s name and your child’s name on each sheet. You can also use the Collection sheets attached at the end of this packet. McCaffrey’s Receipts Box Tops for Education MRS PTA earns 1% of all receipts collected. Please put receipts in an envelope with your child’s name and their teacher’s name.
