Elective  Private Client or Corporate Client – 7 day grace period (does not apply to segmented courses) – Same practical skills – Practice some skills in a different context  Private Client – Family/employment/contractual matters of an individual client  Corporate Client – Banking and finance, mergers and acquisitions, employment, contractual matters affecting a corporate entity.

6. Types of Assignments  Feedback – No pass or fail – If you’re going to be late, ask your instructor for an extension before the work is late – Must complete all feedback work  Assessment – Pass/fail – If sick/involved in emergency, may seek formal deferment from the PLSC Director. Medical Certificate/proof of emergency – Must be graded competent

10. Assessment Standards  Competency in skill as prescribed by NZCLE – Competence in all individual subjects – To a standard expected of a newly admitted lawyer  Either Competent (>60%) or Not Yet Competent(<60%)

11. Assessments 1 st NYC Grade Apply for Supplementary Assessment:  $100 fee  $50 additional fee if not on a scheduled date 2 nd NYC Grade Apply for a Further Assessment:  $150 fee  $50 additional fee if not on a scheduled date 3 rd NYC Grade Apply for an Appeal:  $250 fee  Required to repeat the subject course work and pay the relevant course fee component. Note: In the event of a third NYC grade being achieved in the same skills assessment, you must ordinarily repeat the entire course.  All assessments are graded: ₋Not Yet Competent (NYC): < 60% ₋Competent: 60 – 79% ₋Merit: 80 – 100%

12. Academic Misconduct  Your work should be completely your own – Serious consequences for cheating – May affect your admission to the bar  Feedback work – Ensure that everything you produce is your own  Assessment work – As above, and start from assessment template  Don’t use firm precedents

13. The College issues certificate in PLSC to the student (15 working days after course completion 1 ) The student mails certificate in PLSC to NZCLE (Completion Certificate issued in up to 30 working days 2 ) The student mails Certificate of Character application to NZLS (issued in approx 40 working days 3 ) You must file your admission application in the relevant High Court Registry At least one month prior to admission 4 Admission Ceremony NZCLE = New Zealand Council of Legal Education NZLS = New Zealand Law Society 1.If you apply for priority marking one week prior to your last onsite, the College can issue your Certificate in PLSC within 5 working days of the course end date (a fee applies). 2.The Council of Legal Education closes over Christmas/New Year and no applications or certificates will be processed over that period. 3.Candidates who declare a conviction or answer ‘Yes’ to any questions in Part 8 of the application form are recommended to apply earlier (contact your local branch). 4.Filing dates vary depending on where you are being admitted.
