7 Note : The word millennium comes from the Latin word mille, meaning “thousand,” and annus, meaning “years.” Thus, millennium is a period of one thousand years. The word millennium itself does not appear in the Bible, but Revelation 20 describes a thousand-year time period that begins when Jesus returns the second time.
8
8 1. John 5:28,29. Jesus says that everyone who is in the grave will eventually be raised-some to the resurrection of life and some to the resurrection of condemnation.
9
9 2. 1 Thessalonians 4:16,17. Paul describes four classes of people on the earth when Jesus comes-the righteous living, the righteous dead, the wicked living, and the wicked dead. The righteous dead will be raised to life, and the righteous living will be caught up with them to meet the Lord in the air.
10
10 3. 2 Thessalonians 2:8. At Jesus’ coming, the wicked living will be destroyed by the brightness of Jesus’ coming.
11
11 4. Revelation 20:4-6. The wicked dead will remain unconscious in their graves when Jesus comes. Those who are raised in the ‘first resurrection”-the righteous-are “blessed and holy.” The “rest of the dead”-the wicked-are not raised until the end of the thousand years. They remain sleeping in their graves. There is no second chance at salvation for those who are lost.
12
12 5. Revelation 20:1-3. Satan is bound to this earth during the millennium- or thousand year period-following Jesus’ second coming.
13
13 6. Jeremiah 4:23-27. The earth is desolate and uninhabited during the millennium. Jeremiah 25:33.
14
14 7. 1 Corinthians 6:2,3. The saints judge the world during the thousand years. Revelation 20:4,6.
15
15 8. Revelation 21:2. At the end of the millennium, Jesus returns with the righteous and the inhabitants of heaven. The Holy City, New Jerusalem, descends to earth from heaven. Zechariah 14:3-10.
16
16 9. Revelation 20:3-13. At the end of the millennium, Satan is loosed for a short time, and the wicked are raised to life to receive their final judgment.
17
17 10. Revelation 20:11,12. The wicked stand before God’s great white judgment throne and receive their final judgment, which is total annihilation. Philippians 2:10,11. Every knee bows before God; every tongue confesses He is righteous. Even the wicked admit that God is just and their sentence is deserved.
18
18 Revelation 20:9, 10, 14. Fire comes down out of heaven and destroys forever Satan, his angels, and all the wicked.
19
19 12. Revelation 21:1. God creates a new earth where righteousness dwells forever. 2 Peter 3:10-13. M-End.
20
20 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path (Psalm 119:105).
