Quick Write What is the difference between an expectation and a goal? Write this on a Post-it note.

Enter to Learn…Exit Ready for the Future

I’m Mrs. Autrey, and I love… My family I have been married for30 years to my husband Rick. We have three children – Josh who is a music teacher in Orlando, Florida (Josh is married to Brittni); Mitch who is a chemical engineer (Mitch lives near the Arctic Ocean in Alaska); and Allie who is a mathematician (Allie is married to Hayes and lives in Madison). The Beach My family and I own a beach home in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida. We spend many weekends enjoying the sun, sand, and surf at the Gulf of Mexico. It’s our home away from home. Reading and Travel I really like mysteries and poetry. I love traveling; I spent most of my summer traveling throughout Europe. Teaching I have been teaching school since 1984, and I have taught in Texas, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Georgia, Florida, and Mississippi. I love my job and promise to give each of you 110% each day.

Procedures What should you do when you arrive at school each day? 1. Walk silently and directly to your homeroom which is your 1 st block class on A day and your 5 th block class on B day. 2. If your teacher is present, enter and sit in your assigned seat and silently read a book. 3. If your teacher is not at the door, sit silently in the hallway until she arrives and read. Sit by your teacher’s door against the wall.

In the morning, after you arrive to your class, what if you … need to use the bathroom? 1. You must ask your teacher. 2. You must have a pass. 3. You must return ASAP! want to go the library? 1. You must ask your teacher. 2. You must have a pass (one at a time may go) 3. Sign in at the library. 4. Return ASAP.

Bell Ringer Expectations 1. Read the side board to determine what the bell ringer activity is each day. Then… Pick up your either the bell ringer mini-lesson handout or your reading packet. 2. Write the date on the first available line and answer the test prep questions on the packet,OR respond to the writing prompt in yournotebook or on the handout provided. 3. Do not put away the bell ringer until told to do so. 4. Be prepared to share your answers or read your written response. 5. Bell ringers will be collected when the teacher gives her permission.

Mrs. Autrey needs our attention. Now what? There will be two ways that I will get your attention. “1-2-3…Clap, Clap, Clap” 1. I will count 1-2-3. 1. You will clap three times and become silent. 2. Eyes on me! “Give Me Five” 1. I will raise my hand and say, “Give me five.” 2. When you see my hand up, you should raise your hand, look at me, and close your mouth. Let’s Practice.

How do I get Mrs. Autrey’s attention? If you have a question that is vital or pertinent to the lesson, RAISE YOUR HAND AND HOLD UP ONE FINGER. 1 If you need a tissue, RAISE YOUR HAND AND HOLD UP TWO FINGERS. 2 If you need to use the bathroom (only after I have taught the lesson), RAISE YOUR HAND AND HOLD UP THREE FINGERS. 3 You will only be given TWO opportunities each nine weeks to leave class for bathroom needs. Use them wisely. THERE WILL NEVER BE A REASON TO YELL OUT ANSWERS OR SPEAK WITHOUT PERMISSION. I WILL OFTEN RANDOMLY CALL ON YOU…BE PREPARED TO ANSWER.

“Mrs. Autrey, may I use the bathroom?” Typically, my answer to this question will be “NO,” so ask ONLY in an emergency. Raise your hand and ask first (raise three fingers), BUT… a. Do not ask to use the bathroom while I am teaching or talking. b. Do not ask to use the bathroom if someone else is out of the room. c. Take the yellow pass and wear it it around your neck while out. d. Please return the pass.

WHAT IF I NEED TO… SHARPEN MY PENCIL? PENCILS MAY ONLY BE SHARPENED AT THE BEGINNING OF CLASS. PENCILS MAY BE PURCHASED FOR $0.25 AT THE BEGINNING OF CLASS ONLY! THROW AWAY TRASH? KEEP YOUR GARBAGE ON YOUR DESK OR UNDER YOUR DESK. DISPOSE OF TRASH ON YOUR WAY OUT AT THE END OF CLASS.

Turning in Assignments or Tests 1. Homework or Classwork – When told to do so, place your paper in the alpha sorter. Use your last name, not first name. 2. Tests – Turn your test into the alpha sorter when you are finished. 3. Let’s Practice.

Practice Using the Alpha Sorter 1. When your table is called, stand and move to the alpha sorter at the front of the room. 2. Remember to sort papers by LAST name, not your first name. 3. The expectation is absolutely NO TALKING during this procedure.

So you miss a lot of school…yikes! If you are absent, you should do the following: 1. Check my web page. At the end of the day, I post our daily activities and homework on the school’s web page. 2. Upon your return, ask me at the beginning of class for your missed work, but do not interrupt me during class. 3. You will have three days to make-up your work, including tests. DO NOT EXPECT ME TO REMIND YOU!!!!

“Mrs. Autrey, I forgot my homework.” HOMEWORK IS DUE THE DAY AFTER IT IS ASSIGNED. I see you each day, so your work is due TOMORROW! IF YOU FAIL TO DO YOUR HOMEWORK, YOU FAIL THAT ASSIGNMENT. THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS. IF A PROJECT OR FORMAL ESSAY IS NOT TURNED IN ON TIME, 10 POINTS WILL BE DEDUCTED FOR EACH DAY THAT IT IS LATE.

Should you not have your materials or homework … You will be asked to complete and return a “Student Responsibility Card.” This form is pink. You will complete the form and return it to Mrs. Autrey’s basket on the front table. She calls it ”the pink sheet.” My teacher will use this form during the first quarter to evaluate my effort and attitude.

Chrome Book OTMS Webpage Navigation 1. Type in the URL www.otmstitans.com www.otmstitans.com 2. Click on the ”Teachers” tab at the top. 3. Find your ELA teacher’s name and click it. 4. On the left-hand side, click on ”2016- 2017 Daily Agenda and Homework.” 5. Read today’s agenda. 6. If you have a computer at home, share it with a parent and bookmark it tonight.

Cell Phone Policy See it ~ Hear it ~ LOSE IT! You May… Use it AFTER SCHOOL at extracurricular activities. You MAY NOT… Use your cell phone in a classroom. Use it in the HALLWAYS at any time. Use it in the RESTROOMS at any time. Use it AT LUNCH. Use it DURING ASSEMBLIES. This expectation is NOT NEGOTIABLE.

If I use my phone DURING THE SCHOOL DAY… 1 st Offense: Office Referral 2 nd Offense: In School Suspension 3 rd Offense: Out of School Suspension YOUR PARENT MUST PICK UP YOUR PHONE FROM AN ADMINISTATOR IF IT IS CONFISCATED. See it ~ Hear it ~ LOSE IT!

Dismissal Procedure We work bell to bell. What does this mean to you? Therefore, do not start packing up prior to the bell since the teacher dismisses you - not the bell!

I WILL PLAY MUSIC AS YOU SILENTLY WALK AROUND THE ROOM. WHEN THE MUSIC STOPS, YOU SHOULD LOOK AT THE NEAREST PERSON AND QUIETLY ANSWER THE POSTED QUESTION. EVERYBODY UP AND... SILENTLY GO!
