SUMMER 2016 DEVELOPMENTS Initial updated load rating Required load limit posting reduction Primarily resulted from change in load rating methodology Routine Inspection reveals rot Indicates need for In-depth inspection In-Depth inspection and Load Posting Recommendation Extensive decay found in several truss members Load rating indicates requirement for 3 Ton Weight Limit Repair recommendations identified SLIDE #4 OF 10

INSECT DAMAGE ON DIAGONAL TRUSS MEMBER SLIDE #5 OF 10

DECAY AND CRUSHING IN LATERAL BRACE SLIDE #6 OF 10

WEIGHT LIMIT 3 Ton weight limit - No vehicle exceeding this weight shall cross the bridge. Impact on residents, school bus, garbage pickup, timber industry, and emergency services. All affected individuals and entities have been notified of posting. SLIDE #7 OF 10

FUTURE REPAIRS Consultant developed alternatives Short-term (1 – 6 months) Detour used for larger loads Fumigate to prevent further bug damage Fix roof to prevent further moisture Maintain 3 Ton weight limit Mid-term (1 – 5 years) Restore to 27 Ton capacity Requires low water conditions Permits required Need to secure funding Long-term (5 – 15 years) Consider converting to pedestrian bridge Evaluate alternatives for new vehicular bridge SLIDE #9 OF 10

CONCLUSION Timber rot creates unanticipated issues and makes it difficult to confidently predict future bridge capacity. Securing funding is the number one hurdle we must overcome. Repairs will remain a priority because of sole access factor and historic nature. Questions – Contact Fred Gomez (541) 766-6824 fred.gomez@Co.Benton.OR.US SLIDE #10 OF 10
