Fertiliser Timing Guide ION review; “Macadamias prefer mulch and constant low supply of nutrients” A little often is the ideal approach Avoids over application Avoids nutrient loss from heavy rain Recommend split up into at least 4 applications over the season Work with your consultant to develop an ION program for your orchard
8
Nutrient Replacement Sample strategy to work through with your consultant; Soil Interpretation: What is deficient in the soil? Include deficient nutrients in fertiliser blends Increase deficient nutrient levels Leaf Interpretation: What is deficient in the trees? Look at soil test to see if also deficient in soil Often leaf and soil tests do no correlate Determine possible constraints to uptake Foliar application of deficient nutrients may be needed For current crop, nutrients deficient in trees is what limits yield potential (not soil deficiency!)
9
Foliar Fertiliser Background Majority of nutrients are absorbed through the root system Nutrient deficiency can occur in macadamia for a range of reasons; – dry soil, – wet soil, – cold soil, – overcast weather, – soil pH issue, – soil Ec to high, – soil nutrient deficiency, – high nutrient demand… Foliar fertilising supplies deficient nutrients to trees in these situations
10
Manni-Plex Foliar Solutions Manni-Plex foliar range; - unique sugar alcohol formulation - improves phloem nutrient loading - improves translocation *Manni-Plex products are supplements to a soil applied fertiliser program
11
Manni-Plex Foliar Range Manni-Plex Boron (3.8% B) Manni-Plex Moly (6.2% Mo) Manni-Plex Iron (6% Fe) Manni-Plex Zinc (8.8% Zn) Manni-Plex Manganese (6% Mn) Manni-Plex Magnesium (5% Mg) Manni-Plex Calcium (14.7% Ca) Manni-Plex Cal Mag (7.3% Ca, 3.6% Mg) Manni-Plex Potassium (22% K) Manni-Plex Foundation (3% N, 0.6% Mg, 5.7% Zn, 1.08% Mn, 0.06% Cu, 0.24% B) Manni-Plex Bundle (3% N, 0.3% B, 2.4% Zn, 1.2% Fe, 3% Mn) Pack Sizes - 20L, 200 L, 1000 L Sugar-Alcohol Delivery Technology

Manni-Plex Results Macadamia Bundaberg 2009 Manni-Plex Foliar Trial Applied to young macadamia trees
13
Manni-Plex Results Macadamia Limiting factor identified Foliar fertiliser (Manni-Plex) addressed this limiting factor
14
Case Study - Mr Macadamia No. of trees: Approx 36,500 Varieties:741 – 80% 344, H2, 800 – 20% Row spacings :7 x 3 - 8 x 4 No irrigation, can get 1 m rain in Dec-Feb period Dry periods during summer main limitation to consistent high yields Applies manure and compost to increase soil carbon to improve moisture retention, also reduced erosion by 80% Leaf analysis in April and August Yield average at purchase 2006 : 3.68 ton N.I.S. / ha Yield in wet years up to 5.5 ton NIS / ha Develops a nutrition program in consultation with a professional nutritional consultant Michael Cooper with Ron Bollard & Renier Scheepers
15
Case Study - Mr Macadamia AugSepOctNovDec Manni-Plex BoronXXX Manni-Plex CalciumXXX Manni-Plex PotassiumXX Manni-Plex MagnesiumXX Manni-Plex ZincXX Manni-Plex Foliar Program Results - The use of Manniplex in the trees has resulted in stronger healthier trees, more nut set and better oil content and nut quality.
16
Boron and flowering B Pollen Tube 1. Boron (&Ca) is required for binding of pectin in cell wall 2. Pollen germ tubes are rich in pectin 3. Low B in pollen tube can substantially reduce nut set Soil B preferred method, Foliar B sprays at anthesis All growers should engage a professional and up to date ION Consultant *Talk to your consultant for more detail! **All high producing growers used a consultant ***All high producing growers did NOT make single person decisions
17
Boron deficiency in macadamia Boron notes: Likely immobile in macadamia trees Slow uptake from soil Important at flowering & nut fill If B is a limiting factor, increased B can increase yield 4 monthly B sprays from flowering improves NIS yield, 1 st grade kernels and kernel weight (Stephenson & Gallagher 1987)
18
Manni-Plex Boron Solution Manni-Plex Boron 3.8% B, 5.2% N + Manni-Plex Technology Foliar 1-2 L/ha 2 - 4 monthly applications from flowering (Mr Macadamia had 3, Aug, Oct & Nov)) 50% bloom a critical stage! *Manni-Plex products are supplements to a soil applied fertiliser program
