1958 : 1st school libraries called « services de documentation »
1966 : School libraries called « services de documentation et d’information » and staff « documentalists librarians »
1972 : Creation of FADBEN (national association of « professeurs documentalistes »)
1977 : 1st mission statement
1986 : 2nd mission statement

1989 : creation of CAPES and implementation of a CDI in each secondary school
1997 : Publication of a Référentiel de compétences informationnelles des élèves by the FADBEN
2007 : Publication of a corpus of ideas or concepts in information and documentation in Mediadoc (FADBEN’s publication)
2013 : Edition of 12 propositions to develop a curriculum in information and documentation by the GRCDI
2016 : changement of abbreviation for FADBEN which becomes APDEN
