The Cell Theory All living things are made up of one or more cells. The cell is the basic unit of structure and function of an organism. Cells come only from pre-existing cells.

Types of Cells - Prokaryotic: Cells that lack a nucleus and organelles - Very primitive and unorganized - Bacteria - Eukaryotic: Cells that possess a nucleus and organelles - Advanced, organized, and complex - Cells of animals, plants, fungi, algae, protozoa Organelle : * “Little organ” * C omponent of a cell that performs a specific function

3 Main Parts/Sections of a Eukaryotic Cell 1)Cell Membrane: Outer boundary of the cell separates the cell from its surroundings 2) Cytoplasm: The area within the cell membrane 3) Nucleus: Control center for the cell; Contains the genetic information (DNA)
