5. You have a Chromebook - NOW WHAT? ● Stick to teacher-approved apps and sites. ● When in doubt about the safety of a site, ask an adult. ● Keep all usernames, passwords, and addresses private at all times. ● Report suspicious emails and other contacts to an adult. Be Safe

6. You have a Chromebook - NOW WHAT? How to Keep a Chromebook Happy-- ● Keep it in the case when not in use. ● Use it on a flat surface, not your lap. ● Always carry with 2 hands or in your case. ● Chromebook lids should be closed when moving. Be Responsible

7. Chromebooks - Clean and Cool ● Keep food and drink away from the Chromebook. ● Keep it out of extreme heat or cold (over 100° and under 32°). ● Don’t leave it in the car on a hot day. ● Your Chromebook needs air - if you work on your lap or a bed, it can overheat and be damaged.

8. Chromebooks Are Sensitive ● Plug in and remove power cord or USB cords carefully. ● Chromebook screens crack easily. ● Do not put your pencil or any object on the keyboard - it is easy to forget, close it and then… CRACK !! ● Do not put books or heavy objects on top of your Chromebook. The pressure will damage it. ● Do not lift it by the screen- hold from underneath.

In classrooms The #1 strategy to avoid Chromebook damage in the classroom is to carry the machine with TWO HANDS and a CLOSED LID, even when moving only a few feet.

10. Be Respectful to Yourself and Others ● Showing respect is about everyone- respecting each other and their belongings is a core value at Greenspun. ● Keep your Chromebook in your sight at school and anywhere you take it. Don’t expect your friends to take care of it for you. ● Help each other by reminding your friends to take their Chromebooks when leaving class or going to lunch. ● If you find a Chromebook, bring it to Mr. Slocum in the library. ● Do not use someone else’s Chromebook. ● Help is great, but show your friends how to do cool things on yours. Explain, but let them try it on their keyboard-- one set of hands at a time.

11. Using Your Chromebook at School ● Chromebooks are intended for use at school each day. ● You are responsible to bring your Chromebook to all classes. ● If you leave your Chromebook at home, you are still responsible for getting the course work completed. ● Chromebooks must be brought to school each day in a fully charged condition. Teachers will not provide charging stations and your powercords should be left at home. ● Chromebooks not charged will result in phone calls home, and or referrals to the Dean’s office.

12. Consequences of Misuse of Chromebooks ● Lack of adequate care for Chromebook, case, charger, etc. ● Downloading inappropriate apps and media. ● Leaving Chromebook unattended. ● Adjusting school installed settings from a Chromebook. ● Resetting Chromebook. ● Adjusting settings on someone else’s Chromebook. ● Leaving Chromebook at home. Lack of preparation for class. ● Loaning Chromebook to other students inside and outside of school. Potential for phone calls home, detentions, In School Suspension, and Out of School Suspensions Actions may also result in a loss of Chromebook privileges.

13. Consequences of Misuse of Chromebooks ● Failure to use protective cases when the Chromebook is not in use or when the device is being carried in the hallway. ● Multiple damage instances caused by lack of care. ● Inappropriate media on the device as screensaver or background photo. ● Downloading apps that have not been approved. ● Sound must be muted at all times unless permission is obtained from the teacher for instructional purposes. Potential for phone calls home, detentions, In School Suspension, and Out of School Suspensions Actions may also result in a loss of Chromebook privileges.

14. Chromebook Inspections ● May be selected at random to provide your Chromebook for inspection. ● Any staff member may confiscate any Chromebook at any time for safety and security purposes. ● Your Chromebook is not private or confidential. The district can access, supervise, view, monitor, and record use of student Chromebooks at any time.

FAQ’s Visit the School Website ● What do I do if my Chromebook is damaged or stolen? ○ Report to Mr. Slocum in the library. ● What do I do if my Chromebook is not working properly? ○ Contact Chromebook tech Mr. Galarpe. ● What happens if my computer is being repaired? ○ You will be loaned another Chromebook.
