INTERPRETATION Love vs. Thought Love and thought are opposite from each other. Love is being seen as an negative aspect, always leaving a mark behind. However,thought is seen to be freedom without leaving nothing bad.

LITERARY DEVICES Irony: Love and thought are opposites Personification: (line1) love is given characteristics of a woman. -(line 10) thought is given characteristics of a man. Diction: (1 st stanza) love is given a dark connotation – clingy, straining. -thought is given a brighter connotation (line 5) which demonstrates that thought is fearless and cannot be held back.

TONE AND SHIFT *1 ST stanza: calm/ comforting -Explains how love is to make you happy -Towards love is more resentful *2 nd stanza: reflective -One notices how he is reflecting back on a heart break that left a mark on him. *3 rd stanza: passionate -sees thought as an escape 4 th stanza: hopeful -finding happiness somewhere else
