Background The HoPMOp programme savings target is £800 million by 2020/21 – eg £8m has already been delivered through soluble prednisolone (December 2014 to date + likes of biosimilar Infliximab etc) The programme will deliver value for money and better patient outcomes from £6.7 billion + medicines, through working with 7,000 pharmacists and clinical pharmacy technicians Technology is integral element – Automation, EPMA, Pharmacy Informatics – data and benchmarking Evidence shows that clinical pharmacy (including medicines reconciliation) can deliver a return on investment of £5 for every £1 invested by: Reducing dose omission Reducing length of stay (2 days) Reducing admissions (9 -16%) Increasing time to readmissions (20 days) Reducing medicines costs Reducing errors on discharge (25% - <1%)
