2 My background in radiotherapy Trained at Bristol School of Radiography – Diploma (DCRT) Qualified in 1987 Employed 1987- date at BHOC with maternity leave x3 17 years treatment floor and pre-treatment experience 2004 became Brachytherapy specialist radiographer 2009 appointed Consultant radiographer for brachytherapy

3 My education/training Combined Certificate in Counselling Skills and Theory- Associated Examining Board and Central School of Counselling and Therapy-1997 First MSc module started in 1999- pharmacological management of treatment toxicities MSc in Radiography- Kingston University- Nov 2005 ESTRO course on Brachytherapy in Gynaecological Malignancies, Vienna, Sept 2006 Supplementary Prescribing Qualification, June 2007 (HPC registered ESTRO course on Modern brachytherapy techniques, Madrid, March 2010

4 My role now 4 strands to role: –Expert clinical practice –Leadership and consultancy –Research and service development –Education, training and development Targets/objectives set in each area

6 3 Areas of responsibility My departmental role Brachytherapy patients Taking on more of oncologists roles Attending MDT meetings, assisting in decisions about treatment recommendations Providing patient information, obtaining consent Vaginal brachytherapy, catheterisation, vaginal examination, applicator insertion, CT assessment On treatment reviews for gynae EBRT patients Only consultant radiographer in my department- role model, leadership, teaching, etc Representing BHOC- presentations, publications etc

7 3 Areas of responsibility My Trust role Meetings with Nurse and AHP consultants Report to Director of Nursing Clinical governance Quality metrics- improving patient experience, patient safety and clinical outcomes Collaboration with development of non-medical research Only consultant radiographer in my Trust Attending gyane MDT meetings Regional role- attending site specific cancer network meetings
