How to setup your SAS Account THE SELECTIVE ADMISSION SYSTEM Click on “Selective Admission Programs”Selective Admission Programs You must also submit a general admission application for the semester you wish to start the program. This is a separate process from your Selective Admission packet.

Please do not create duplicate accounts!

Any contact from BCTC regarding your application will be directed to the e-mail you provide here. You will receive an email to validate your SAS account. Check your junk e-mail folder in case you do not receive the e-mail in your inbox.

Selective admission checklists are unique for each program and must be included in your packet. Your checklist must be filled out and signed to be accepted by the Office of Admissions. Selective admission checklist REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

The Office of Admissions will not accept copies of any documents other than approved international documents. Documents should not be sent to the Office of Admissions separately. We cannot ensure they will be matched with your selective admission packet. This may result in your packet being incomplete and declined. THE SELECTIVE ADMISSION PACKET Document Requirements

A high school transcript or GED scores must meet the below criteria to be official: the document must show a date of graduation or completion and it must be stamped with the institution’s official seal or printed on the institution’s unique watermarked paper. Home school transcripts must be notarized by a notary public. International documents may be accepted as copies if in English and notarized by a notary public or signed by the Office of Admissions. Transcripts stamped “issued to student” will be accepted as long as they meet the above criteria. High School transcripts REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

College transcripts must meet the below criteria to be official: The document must be stamped with the institution’s official seal or printed on the institution’s unique watermarked paper Documents stamped “Issued to Student” will be considered official International college transcripts must be submitted as a course-by- course evaluation through an approved agency. You may find a list of approved evaluation agencies at http://www.naces.org/members.htm http://www.naces.org/members.htm Military Transcripts are considered college transcripts and must be turned in with the complete admission packet Any college credit you have ever earned at an accredited institution must be turned in on an official transcript, including dual credit and study abroad, etc. College transcripts REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

In order to be considered official, NLN scores must meet one of the following criteria: Tests taken at BCTC’s testing center will be stamped with a seal Outside testing centers can provide official copies by stamping or sealing their results or providing the results in a sealed institution envelope Order a “duplicate score report” from the NLN website. When they email you the report, print the email from NLN and the score report to include with your packet. Official NLN Scores REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

ACT scores can be ordered from http://www.act.org.http://www.act.org SAT scores can be ordered at http://www.collegeboard.org. http://www.collegeboard.org IMPORTANT NOTE: Students’ whose first language is not English may be asked to take the ESL COMPASS exam. Please note that the ESL COMPASS scores will not be accepted for admission. You may request to take the regular COMPASS in the Advising & Assessment Center. Test scores must meet the following criteria to be official: They must be printed on the testing organization’s unique paper Test results printed on an official high school transcript will be accepted as official. If you are currently enrolled at a Kentucky Community and Technical College System school you can login to PeopleSoft and access any ACT or SAT scores that may be on file through your Student Services Center. Your pre-admission conference attendance form must be filled out and signed in order to be accepted by the Office of Admissions. Pre-admission conference forms from previous years will not be accepted. The pre-admission conference is an annual requirement. Pre-admission conference attendance form REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

The course work must not be from a KCTCS school. Only college coursework from another college/university is eligible. You must have at least 12 credit hours at a KCTCS school, 100 level or above, with at least 2.0 GPA or higher. This does not include MA 108 or remedial coursework. There must be a break of at least two years between previous college work and the more recent KCTCS college work. This means 2 Fall and Spring semesters. Students who have earned an Associate or Bachelor degree from any college or university are not eligible for the GPA Recalculation Option. Students seeking to bankrupt KCTCS coursework to improve their GPA will need to see the Records Office regarding process and eligibility. Qualifications G.P.A. RECALCULATION

You may turn your packet in at any Bluegrass Community and Technical College Campus Extra processing time will apply to packets turned in at a campus other than Cooper Campus To turn a packet in on Cooper Campus, you may visit: OB 119 or OB 202A To mail your packet, send to: Bluegrass Community and Technical College Selective Admissions Oswald Building 202A 470 Cooper Drive Lexington, KY 40506 ** We HIGHLY advise tracking your shipment if you choose to mail your packet** To ensure delivery, please bring your packet to the Cooper Campus. After you have setup your SAS account and submitted your application packet, it can take 10 business days before your information is processed and displayed through your SAS account. You will receive an automated e-mail when your information is added and completed. Your acceptance status is updated through your SAS account. You will not receive correspondence from the Office of Admissions through postal mail or telephone. Please note that your SAS account will not show your acceptance status until all selections are approved through committee. You will have two weeks to electronically accept your spot in the program or your alternate position through your SAS account. After two weeks, your position will be filled by another student. Students that do not complete their acceptance paperwork by the required deadline will forfeit their place in the program. As a result, it is very important that you check your SAS account and ensure your information is up to date. It is your responsibility to ensure your acceptance paperwork is received. You have the option of declining your position. If you choose to do so, you may not reclaim your place in the program at a later date and will be required to re-apply. Should you be accepted for admission or accepted as an alternate, you will complete your acceptance on your SAS account. Additional paperwork is required by the program. Review the alternate acceptance documentation and accept or decline your alternate acceptance into the program. You will receive a confirmation email and will be directed to a confirmation screen.

What to do if you are an Alternate PROGRAM ACCEPTANCE Step 4 If you accepted your alternate spot, you will still have the ability to decline. Click on Decline to forgo your alternate spot in the program.

Going from alternate to accepted PROGRAM ACCEPTANCE If your status changes from alternate to accepted your SAS account will update accordingly. You will need to follow the steps to accept your spot in the program.

ASSOCIATE DEGREE NURSING MISSION STATEMENT ASSOCIATE DEGREE NURSING MISSION STATEMENT In support of the BCTC mission of providing quality education and learning, the mission of the Associate Degree Nursing Program prepares program graduates to pass the National Council Licensure Examination to become registered nurses. The program curriculum combines general education and nursing education and is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing and is approved by the Kentucky Board of Nursing. The program faculty support lifelong learning and workforce development through faculty efforts in continuing education and community service.

ADVANCED STANDING APPLICANTS Criteria to be considered Advanced Standing: Graduated within three years of admission from a PN nursing program and holds a current active unrestricted practical nurse license. Graduated more than three years prior to admission and verifies current employment as an LPN and holds a current unrestricted practical nurse license. Current employment is defined as one year of full- time employment as an LPN within the last three years. Currently enrolled practical nursing student within KCTCS with plans to graduate prior to Spring semester admission. Enrolled and took nursing courses at BCTC or another college (approval from Coordinator) LPN may receive nine (9) credit hours for Nursing 101 through advanced standing. To earn this credit they must meet one of the following:

FAQ How long does it take to complete the ADN program? Five semesters Can I finish quicker if I take more nursing courses per semester? No. Each nursing course must be taken prior to or concurrent with the semester sequence in which you are enrolled. What grade do I need to make to pass a nursing course? “C” = 77% Do you accept nursing courses from other nursing programs? If you have taken courses in another program, you must make an appointment with the Program Coordinator to review your transcript. How many days per week do I need to be on campus? Four days What degree will I graduate with when I complete the program? Associate in Applied Science- Nursing

FAQ (continue) What is the difference between a BSN nurse and ADN nurse? There are three tracks to become a RN, BSN, ADN, Diploma. All three programs, graduates sit for the NCLEX exam and will become licensed as a RN What does the job market look like for RN’s in the Bluegrass area? In the past three years, >90% of our graduates were working as RN’s by six months post graduation. Can I take some nursing courses prior to be accepted into the program? No, you must be first accepted into the program before you can take any nursing courses. We encourage you to take the co-requisites prior to starting the program.

FAQ (continue) Can I take any courses on-line? Currently we do not have a long-distance program. Only the pharmacology courses will be done online. Can I apply to the program before taking the pre-requisites courses? Yes you can. You will be admitted on the contingency that the pre-requisites will be completed prior to starting the program. How much does the nursing program cost? Not including tuition, approximately $1300.00. In addition you will be required to purchase a wireless device, a standardized test, NCLEX prep resources, and a skills pack each semester.
