3 Needs Assessment  Need to have a good idea about the community  Purpose is to find out all you can about the community and the resources  Great way to start the network process

4 Assessment  Environment and Resources: factors that separate a community from its environment and maintain the integrity of the community Boundary lines, Transportation services Public services Land use  Shopping Area  Industries  Housing  Recreational facilities and areas  Schools

7 Analysis of Data Necessary to identify the problems, needs, strengths and trends in the community Need to analyze demographic and personal characteristics, which are important to consider when planning and implementing health programs. Review of the literature regarding the problem and possible solutions Goals: the purpose or reason the community exists Set factors: the physical and psychosocial characteristics of the community that affect behavior

11 Timeout  Break into groups and brainstorm about what are possible resources?  Come back to the group with a list that are possibilities when you return home.

12 What to say  Awareness of the problem  Motivation to resolve the problem  Ability to influence problem solution  Availability of expertise  Severity of outcomes if the problem is unresolved  Speed at which the problem can be solved
