Crime scene exercise - Search for physical evidence A shooting occurred at SJSU in the early morning just outside Clark Hall A witness stated he heard 5 shots and thought they came from the lawn near the statues of the Olympians. He then stated that he thought he saw someone clutching their arm that looked like it was bleeding. He said the person was running away from the statues toward the path leading to the Event Center You are assigned the following roles: –Security: 2 individuals (different teams) –Note takers: 4 individuals (different teams) –Sketchers : 4 individuals (one per team) –Photographers: 2 individuals –Media: 2 individuals –CSIs: 6 individuals –I was the witness –You were asked to secure, search, record and reconstruct. –You need to secure the scene, locate and document the evidence and collect any physical evidence found –Indicate the types of tests you would like to have conducted on the evidence.

Crime Scene - Search for Physical Evidence 1- Follow up In your teams answer the following questions. Answer the appropriate questions from the list below for your team. Identify discrepancies in your answers among your team members. What do you believe has led to the discrepancy? How would you resolve them? We will review each teams results: that is- areas of discordance in the answers both within and among teams. 1.Did you secure the scene? Was it active or passive? What boundaries did you set up? 2.Did you interview anyone before arriving? 3.What did you search for? Why? 4.What search methods did you select? Why? Did one search method work better than the other? 5.After you started your search, did you find anything that led you to look for other evidence? What kinds of links were you looking for? 6.Did you select reference points for measurements? What did you select? What measurement method did you utilize? 7.Did you make a rough sketch? 8.List the number and types of evidence you found. Did you collect the evidence properly? Chain of custody, marked clearly, packaged, sealed, stored properly?
