33 Shigellosis Infection a.Proliferate to immense numbers in the small intestine, but cause damage to the large intestine b.Destroy tissue in the intestinal mucosa by means of lymphoid cells in Peyer’s patches (cf. S.dysenteriae – invade the blood steam)
