Cities Big trading cities often had a large population Poor Romans in cities lived in crowded and not so nice houses Lots of entertainment in the cities: Chariot races, bath houses, gladiator fights, monuments and temples More people lived in the country than in the cities Rural areas: people farmed Large farms and Villas (county homes for rich Romans) scattered Vacation home where they lived it up and had slaves and big parties
