Our Nation’s Capitol Congress met more in Pennsylvania from 1774-1800 than any other city. (8 Times) Philadelphia served as the temporary capital of the United States, 1790–1800, while the Federal City was under construction in the District of Columbia. Pennsylvania Avenue & Constitution Avenue serve as the main thoroughfares in Washington DC to pay tribute to the state that hosted the Nation’s Capitol from 1790-1800.
