SPIRAL = Partner in research on p-TA Why ? Spiral is a research centre (16 people) - Political sciences It is involved in PACITA (P. Delvenne) : one of the assigned task is to set up such a Summer School to organise the transfer of practices Spiral got a substantial institutional support from the Faculty of Law (Fond Constant) to organise this Summer School

Delvenne) Field on the move: transformations of the terms of debate on pTA, over the last decennia's. Participation / representative democracy Technology / society Innovation / public support TA agencies are human creations : techniques for TA and agencies are evolving in most countries

Historical development of SPIRAL : SPIRAL started in 1996 with several projects related to risk management issues - Technology-oriented - interdisciplinary Risk is an issue for engineers - mathematicians - psychologists and political scientists (e.g.. siting of RA waste – opposition to wind farming)

SPIRAL = Partner in research on p-TA Why ? To support several research projects on public decision making processes SPIRAL developed expertise in participatory methods : - Focus Groups - Consensus Conference - Atelier Scenario - p+e-Delphi (participatory & on line)

SPIRAL = Partner in research on p-TA Why ? Over the years, SPIRAL was more involved in research in the analysis of STI systems - STS approach in the analysis of innovation : GMO - New Foods - Nano – etc. - institutional developments in STI policies - instruments of public policy (e.g.: TA)
