Sit in pairs – your preference for partners Take a 3x5 card, fold in half (horiz. or vrtcl) making a name card “tent” On one side, in large letters, print – “THE BOSS”, then print your name in smaller letters below this Set the card in front of you w/ THE BOSS facing the projection screen Assessment: time to follow directions correctly

Respect for others ◦ Looking at resume characteristics – not sharing names ◦ Learning experience “you do not know” these people – do not be influenced by the names on resumes You are THE BOSS, this is YOUR business, YOUR success, YOUR income, YOUR family depend upon good decisions about who works for you Assume these potential employees have the necessary specialty knowledge and skills for your job opening – looking at “soft skills” & intangibles

Assuming these potential employees have the necessary specialty knowledge & skills for your job opening Brainstorm with your partner other characteristics you would value in an employee for your company List these traits on the back, outside of your “BOSS” tent Keep folders closed w/ papers inside

Where does it “fall” in the employment process? How is it used by the employer? Screening device Introduce potential employees “first impression” Provides “leads” to follow-up Employer looking for a “good fit” to his/her needs

3 per folder; one minute to view all three, then you will pass the folder on GOAL: impact of the resume ◦ Remember “safety of Seminar” ◦ Characteristics of the resume layout ◦ Visual impact ◦ Quality of the information ◦ What do you notice, what message does it send? Make note of your “first impression” Inside of “BOSS” tent = resume characteristics ◦ Good/incorporate- Poor/avoid
