What is my student going to learn? 3 rd Year: How to discuss pastimes, food, news, childhood and family experiences in the past, things to do in a city, restaurants and ordering food, ways to stay fit, beach activities, health and illness. 2 nd Year: Weather, identifying places and giving directions, shopping and bartering in a market, ordering food in a restaurant, describing their daily routine, discussing what other people are doing or should do, planning a party, describing past activities and telling what happened. Why is my student lucky to be in this class? They will have daily opportunities to work collaboratively with other students. They will be constantly interacting and practicing the language in context. They will have multiple opportunities to learn and practice Spanish through interactive games, songs, and a variety of visual and auditory media.

Expectations Be on time (in your seat when the bell rings, not as it is ringing) Consistent attendance (don’t be tardy!) Cooperate and participate in classroom activities Regularly do your assignments Have a positive attitude and contribute to the class positively. Be respectful Do Spanish homework

Grading 25% 50% Homework Participation Test/Quizzes *Completed homework is also considered to be part of in-class participation. We correct homework, in class, as a class. Homework needs to be completed at the time it’s being checked. Not completing your homework results in a loss of 3 participation points

Presentations This means any kind of speaking group work such as videos, role-plays, dialogues, presentations, interviews, etc. These will be graded in the test category. If absent on due date of presentation you will receive a zero (0). I will assign you an individual presentation that is as rigorous as, or more rigorous than the presentation you failed to complete on the due date.

Participation Points There are 50 possible participation points per week in a 5 day week. You will earn daily points for each of the following: Arriving on time and being prepared to work Homework out for check off & completed when required Regular and consistent attendance, appropriate behavior (see Student Handbook p.18), and positive participating in classroom activities Speaking in Spanish when required Total= 10 pts. You will lose daily points for the following: Inappropriate behavior See Student Handbook p.18 Failure to have homework completed on the day it is due Failure to remove hat (after being asked once) Tardy Off task (not participating in task or assignment) Use of electronic devices during class when not required Food or drink (other than water) in class Excused absence= -3 pts (if you aren’t in class, you can’t participate) Unexcused absence= -10 pts.

3 RD YEAR YEAR STUDENTS ARE EXPECTED TO… 1) WRITE THE ORIGINAL QUESTIONS, SENTENCE, OR PARAGRAPH 2) TRANSLATE THE *STARRED* ACTIVITY TO ENGLISH (INCLUDES THE ORIGINAL QUESTION, SENTENCE OR PARAGRAPH IN TRANSLATIONS) 3) UNDERLINE THE VOCABULARY WORDS OR GRAMMAR CONCEPT USED IN EACH SECTION 4) COMPLETE THE ENTIRE ASSIGNMENT *NOTE EACH SECTION THAT IS INCOMPLETE WILL LOWER THE GRADE BY 2.5 POINTS *FORGETTING ONE QUESTION IS CONSIDERED INCOMPLETE Homework Points: Each textbook or workbook assignment is worth a possible 10 points LATE WORK: 5 points will be taken for ALL late assignments. To receive ½ credit, it must be completed the day after it was due.

Assignments Assignments are to be completed on the day they are due. Full credit for late work is only accepted when there is an excused absence. Make-Up Work Only excused absences will be allowed to make up an assignment, you have the same number of days you were absent to make up any missed work, test, or quiz. Bathroom & Locker Passes You are allowed 8 bathroom passes per semester. I will keep track of these as the semester progresses, if you do not use them they will rollover to the next semester they cannot be used as extra credit. BATHROOM REQUESTS NEW SCHOOL POLICY: You will be allowed to use the bathroom after the first 10 minutes of class and before the last 10 minutes of class only.

Tardies 1)After an absence, you are required to bring me an Excused Absence slip from the Attendance Office. 2)You will automatically be given one hour of detention if you do not bring in an excuse for your absence to the Attendance Office. 3)You will have 3 days to bring in an excuse for your absence to the Attendance Office in order to remove the detention from your record. 1)If you are more than 5 minutes late to any class, you are considered absent. 2)On the third tardy I make a phone call home to inform parents 3)On the fourth tardy you will deal with the Dean of Students (Mr. Warrior)

Daily Entry Routine Complete the following routine every day upon entering class: 1.Go to your assigned seat 2.Take out your materials and homework 3.Put your cell phone in your backpack and place your back pack at the front of the room under the whiteboard 4.Return to your seat and put your homework on the outside corner of your desk with your stamp sheet 5.Complete the daily ENTRADA in your logbook

Heading a Quiz or a Test In the upper LEFT side of your paper write the following every time you take a quiz or a test: Your student # (this is the number you’re given on the first day of class.
