Industries Biggest industry is manufacturing Public administration is second largest Educational services is third largest Agriculture is also a large industry, with more farming than is average in New York

Energy The County has a hydroelectric dam project to generate electricity Wind power is not feasible for most of the County except for on the mountain ranges Only about 16% of the fuel used to generate the County’s electricity is coal and oil, much less than the national average

Waste There are no active landfills in the County Hudson Falls has a waste to energy station that burns garbage to convert it to energy. Fort Edward accepts composting materials Recycling is accepted throughout the County

Mountains Adirondack Mountains: 1 billion years old Taconic Mountains: 440 million years old

Native Americans Mohican tribe Fun fact: They were sometimes called “River Indians” because they lived so close to the river so they could have food and transportation.

CLIMATE SMART COMMUNITIES It is a community partnership with the state. There are no climate smart communities in Washington County

ENVIROTHON! Envirothon is when high schoolers compete to solve environmental problems Kids in Washington County compete in Envirothon

A Fun Fact about my County is… Over 120,000 people go to the Washington County Fair annually
