In Spirit and Truth John 4:24-25
2
John 3:7 “Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’” 3:14-15 “And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life.” 3:30 “He must increase, but I must decrease.”
3
John 9:4 We must work the works of him who sent me while it is day; night is coming, when no one can work. 10:16 And I have other sheep that are not of this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice. So there will be one flock, one shepherd.
4
John 12:26 If anyone serves me, he must follow me; and where I am, there will my servant be also. If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him. 20:9 for as yet they did not understand the Scripture, that he must rise from the dead.
5
“God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” John 4:24
6
“Worship is the most momentous, most urgent, most glorious action that can take place in human life.” Karl Barth
7
“We were created continuously outpouring. Note that I did not say we were created to be continuous outpourers. Nor can I dare imply that we were created to worship. This would suggest that God is an incomplete person whose need for something outside himself (worship) completes his sense of himself.
8
It might not even be safe to say that we were created for worship, because the inference can be drawn that worship is a capacity that can be separated out and eventually relegated to one of several categories of being. I believe it is strategically important, therefore, to say that we were created continuously outpouring – we were created in that condition, at that instant, imago Dei.” Harold Best
9
So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. 1 Corinthians 10:31
10
But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. John 4:23
11
“There’s nothing more important than what we think of him and how we worship him. Nothing!” Kent Hughes
12
See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. … Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is. 1 John 3:1-2
13
“Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, but you say that in Jerusalem is the place where people ought to worship.” John 4:20
14
IN SPIRIT
15
“God does not regard our voices, he hears our hearts, and if our hearts do not sing we have not sung at all.” Charles Spurgeon
16
IN SPIRIT “I hate, I despise your feasts, and I take no delight in your solemn assemblies. Even though you offer me your burnt offerings and grain offerings, I will not accept them … Take away from me the noise of your songs; to the melody of your harps I will not listen.” Amos 5:21-23
17
IN SPIRIT “I wonder if there was ever a time when true spiritual worship was at a lower ebb.” A.W. Tozer, Pursuit of God
18
IN SPIRIT Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me. Psalm 51:10-11
19
IN SPIRIT If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:8-9
20
IN TRUTH
21
“Every failure in worship, in doctrine or practice, can be traced back to wrong thoughts about God.” Kent Hughes
22
IN TRUTH And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, [Jesus] interpreted to [disciples] in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself. Luke 24:27
23
IN TRUTH Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:9-11
24
IN TRUTH Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth. John 17:17
25
IN TRUTH “We are to be people filled with the Word of God. When that happens, the attributes and the metaphors and the words that so beautifully describe God become the music of our hearts.” Kent Hughes
26
IN TRUTH Let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire. Hebrews 12:28
