Learning Target: We will identify events and issues from the Reconstruction through the 20th Century including the cattle industry realities and the way of life for cowboys. Success Criteria: I will decide whether a situation in the cowboy’s life is reality or myth.

After the Civil War ended demand for cattle increased dramatically. Railroads helped the Texas Cattle industry expand to the North. In 1866, 260,000 head of cattle were driven north. Driving Cattle only cost ranchers $1 per head. The low cost made profit huge for the ranchers selling the cattle $40-$60 a head.
