Using Lexis Nexis Lrxis Nexis is one of the database tools that is available at York College.

Getting to Lexis Nexis To get to Lexis Nexis from the Library’s homepage, click on Articles/ Statistics/ Images and then click on Articles and more. From here, there are several database names revealed: choose Lexis Nexis.Articles/ Statistics/ ImagesArticles and more

Lexis Nexis Beginning Lexis Nexis, the user can choose to perform an Easy Search or a Power Search (on the left side of the display). In addition, the user can choose to find information using one of the six information tools in the center of the screen: “Search the News,” “Look Up a Legal Case,” “Get Company Info,” “Research Countries,” “Research People,” and “Combined Search.” Each option will be explored individually.

Easy Search Easy Search allows the user to choose one os the six information tools listed: Search the News, Look Up a Legal Case, Get Company Info, Research Countries, Research People and Combined Search.

Power Search The Power Search option allows the user to input specific information to be searched. Within Power Search, the user can define the year(s) add subject terms (Company, Industry, Subject, Geography, People, and select the source (either by type or name)

Search the News From the Easy Search, the userr can choose to Search the News.

Search The News Search the News Covers 1980 to today. Search For: By Source Type Source InformationSource Information Or by Source Title Enter a title like New York Times

Search the News Within the Search the News tool, the user can specify to search Major World Publications, Newspapers, Magazines, Wire Services, Broadcasts Transcripts, Blogs and All News. Only one choice can be made at a time.

Look Up a Legal Case The userr can choose to Look up a Legal Case from the Easy Search, by citation, by parties or by Topic is possible;

Get Company Info In Easy Search, the user can choose to obtain Company Info. This can be gotten by either the company name or its ticker symbol

Research Countries Using the Easy Search, the user can choose to find information about a country. Here the user can choose the name of the country (listed alphabetically from Afganistan to Zimbabwe, choose the source of the information (currently there are four choices: Business Monitor International, Country Briefings, PRS Risk Guide & Service, and Recent News Sources). Then the user can choose a time period for the information: Today to All Available Dates.

Research People From the Easy Search, the user can choose to find information about a person. Here the last name (required) and first name can be input. Then, Biographical Reference or Recent News Stories can be chosen.

Combined Search Here, in Easy Search, the user can input the subject and then choose the time period (Today to All Available Dates) and then choose one of the following: –Major US & World News –Company Profiles –SEC Filings –US & State Legal Cases –Law Reviews

Additional Lexis Nexis Features In either the Easy Search or the Power Search, there are additional features to be explored. These are on the left side of the screen, and include: –News, US Legal, International Legal, Companies, Subject Areas, Sources, Help & Instructions and Beta Tools. Each of these will be discussed separately.

International Legal Choosing International Legal, the user can choose: Canadian Cases Canadian Legislation EU, Commonwealth, and Other Nations Canadian Law Journals
